Lyra Mayfield is a modern dance choreographer, performer, and Registered
Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator. Living in the foothills of Boulder,
Colorado, Lyra’s dancing is inspired by the surrounding Rocky Mountains
and the wildness of nature, which she immerses herself in regularly.
Lyra’s choreography reflects her choice to embrace a path that
is lead by her heart and is creatively sparked by her appreciation for
Life. She is interested in creating dances that express beauty, reflect
emotion, and inspire connection.
Co-Artistic Director of Open Door Dance Theatre for 10 years, her company
has been the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships for choreography
and production. Lyra is now exploring solo and independent work, as well
as enjoying working with other choreographers.

A movement educator for 20 years, Lyra has taught at the university,
high school and elementary levels, as well as ongoing community classes.
She has consulted with CU Denver Health Sciences Center, presented multiple
times at The International Center for Human Caring Conferences, taught
at Northern Arizona University for 10 years, and Naropa University for
7 years.
Lyra can be found running or hiking on the Boulder Open Space and Mountain
Parks trails when she isn’t in the studio dancing.
